Just thought I'd throw this out there. I have a favorite "Baby Names" site(my mom freaked the first time she saw me on it). Usually I look for meanings that describe my character. Or sometimes I know I want a name starting or ending with a certain letter so I'll look for that. another thing I like to do is come up with one word to describe my character and translate it into another language. That works better for last names. Sometimes a name will just pop into my head so I write it down for the next time I need a name for a story. I usually will change names as I write the story. I find it easier to make up names in my fantasy/otherworld stories because I get to make up my own rules of pronunciation and such. Just a thought.

I usually go to Seventh Sanctum for my names. I usually don't write otherworld/fantasy stories, so I don't have to worry about "weird" names, but when I do I just go to Seventh Sanctum as well.
The only reason I go there is because I'm too lazy to go and look up the meanings. The only times I go to baby name websites are when I'm bored and trying to avoid coding my website, and when I want to make sure I'm using the right version of a name.
But I do find names outside of generators and catalogues. I named one of my characters, Cixi (who is in my one and only fantasy story, by-the-way), after the ruthless ruler who tried to patch things up after the Opium Wars. It didn't quite work, but she tried.
See, I used to make up names when I was little and stuck in the whole Harry Potter wizard girl thing, but it always turned out that the names I made up were existing names. I had a dragon named Noelani once, and it turns out Noelani is some Hawaiin word that means heavenly rose or something.
So that's why I go to Seventh Sanctum.

I mostly write Medieval Fantasy-like stories and I love Seventh Sanctum for that. A lot of times it has some dumb weird names like Ldasfyaisjfklsadjf, or something completely unpronounceable, but I've gotten some great names from that site. It has tons of great generators and stuff. I'd encourage you to check it out and just explore the site a little.

Cool. I've never tried using a name site. All my names are completely random and unpronouncible (e.g. Mzarr, Fthirrn, Kprren). I have tried using runes for names but that didn't work because they all sounded like boys. Maybe I should try a names site. I did steal one name off some guy i know over the net.
