...When he started writing it, he was 15. By the time it was published (by his family's publishing company), after the never-ending editing process, he was older. I believe around 18 or 19.

Hey, I may be wrong. I'm taking all this information from my memory of the last time I read it. I'd check, but I don't have my copy near me.

Philip Pullman. I've read His Dark Materials series. To me, The Golden Compass was pretty good, but the Subtle Knife was horrible, and the Amber Spyglass was a little better.
I really like Diana Wynne Jones.
Lemony Snicket is pretty good as well.
And Tad Williams is a really good author as well.

I like teen fiction books. Ones that I can relate to. Ones that could happen at any time.
My favorites:
Diary by Chuck Palahniuk.
Lucas by Kevin Brooks.
This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen.
Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk.
Cut by Patricia McCormick.
Personally, any book with the word "Push" on the spine is awesome.
I'm a softy for teen fiction.

im a sucker for a good book, and i read so so so much. so the authors i've listen above are only a small amount of the authors i read habitually, plus i have this library im starting in my room, i think i have probably around 500 books so far. One day...in the very very far furture i will have a house and in the house i will have a library, a psuedoquasi beauty and the beast diney movie version one. but thats all in my head. cheers, kids, have fun. and don't hurt yourself its bad for yourself.

anything by Sarah Dessen is good...particularly Keeping the Moon and That Summer. S.E. Hinton is also a really good one. I like the Outsiders, but all of hers is good.
