Your kiss isn’t out of this world; it’s in it, Somewhere deep inside of it where poets imagined they’d venture, Somewhere molten, somewhere warm, Somewhere losers everywhere dreamed to even dream of. And I get lost in it.
I get in too deep, And when I finally break the surface again, I’m gasping, blinking in the light, Enlightened, finally, In a way no god or goddess could ever do, Because you’re greater than God, Kind of like the Beatles, Except you’d be the last person to admit it, And I’m pretty sure there are nights when John Lennon, high on beer and success, Drunkenly proclaimed his “divinity.”
They say there’s more to see than can ever be seen, And that’s one thing that’s true, That’s one thing that’s real. Because just in that one kiss there’s a whole world, One that most people don’t notice, One that most people wouldn’t care about.
Because you’re a loser, Getting high at the Loser’s Club, Chilling with Big Bill and Eh-Eh-Eddie Kaspbrak. And there’s a magic about losers, Something that can make water into battery acid, Something that can give talismanic properties to a tongue-twister, Something that can make pictures come alive. And that something, it’s all yours. And it’s so rare that you don’t even know you have it, And maybe I like it better that way. Because maybe if you knew, you’d stop being so wonderful, And maybe then, you would be out of this world.
