'What a waste of an evening that has been' she thought, casting the blame not only at those around her, but also at herself. She glanced around the room and squinted her eyes to make out who was who. She could strongly smell the alchohol on everyone's breath and she wringkled her face in disgust as she realised that she could even fainlty smell the sick from downstairs.
But she could feel his breath on the back of her neck, and somehow everything was that bit better. Everything would be okay; he was there. He's always there for her. A best friend.
'Just a best friend?' she pondered, like she had many times before, 'of course just a best friend' she told herself crossly. 'You always read too much into everything' but she did love him, she had always loved him. As a friend, or as more? She had never been quite sure.
'Let's go to sleep now, yeah?' he muttered to her softly. 'okay' she replied, and they both clambered into his one-person sleeping bag and laid down on the floor, his arm around her waist, softly stroking her side. She did not know how to describe the way she loved him, but right then this did not matter, all that mattered is that she really did love him and she would do anything for him.
He kissed her on her cheek. She kissed his hair. He kissed her hand, her cheek, her nose. She said 'i love you' he said 'i've always loved you'. He kissed her on the lips. He had the lightest touch.
She panicked. 'What did that mean?' she thought. 'it's okay' she told herself calmingly 'just don't do anything back, wait and see what happens'. He kissed her again, properly this time, 'i love you so much' he whispered in her ear. They kissed. 'i love you too'.
