Do you know what I love? Riding home in the rain the raindrops beat a counter rhythm to one of the countless songs about rain playing And the lightning flashes trick you into thinking it’s day because they’re so bright the white-hot seams of the sky ripping apart before our very eyes And the moon plays hide and seek like a six year old in the dark hiding under the fluffy bedcovers so you can’t see him grinning
And whenever you drive under a bridge the rain stutters for a split second so it seems that, just for a moment, time is frozen and you hear nothing
And the thunder rumbles ferociously so that you can feel it vibrate through your body the beat of life pulsing in your blood and ringing and drumming in your ears
And staring out through the windshield watching the windshield wipers work together one pushes the water left and the other sweeps it down so you can see into the mist and the darkness
And it’s like your own little warm dry world while outside the world’s rage fuels the storm and it beats itself furiously against anything in its path while you watch with awestruck eyes at its power And when you finally pull into your driveway you sit for just a moment absorbing it all in before you make a mad dash for the door while the raindrops inevitably polka-dot your clothes
And you can just stare outside forever watching the timelessness of it all and you just know you’re alive in the rain

lol. i do too. i had a soccer tournament and the second game got called for lightning and so we all went to wait in our cars to see if it would pass so we were there for like two hours watching it rain and lightning before they finally called the games off and then i went and ate and then we drove home and i just wanted to write something about it. oklahoma weather is a little bit crazy, but i've never been able to think of something to write about it. but when we drove home we kept going under the bridges and that pause kept getting my attention and then the lightning and i just came home and wrote this.
