A spider crawls across the floor tiny black dot scrabbling over tiles in my kitchen I reach for something to kill it with but pause
Close my eyes and I can see the tiny black dot wriggling through my vision strange how something so insignificant can plant itself in my mind I guess it's no wonder I can't get away from you
You asked me for it all and I gave my heart, soul, mind I guess that makes you more than that little spider imprinted on my eyelids I can see you perfectly too so devastating, aren't you?
Maybe you can see me also because to you I was just that spider insignificant but for that brief moment when I caught your eye the motion of my life attracting your attention but maybe I got caught in your mind
To us, spiders are nothing yet they have thoughts and destinations we don't think about maybe someone should not you, I guess
I got caught in my own web of innocence, I suppose how naive I was to think those beautiful, silken strands were strong enough to hold anyone but me pretty baubles that catch your attention so briefly
And the only poison in me was desire swift and hot in my body but I never got close enough to bite maybe my web held me back
But the brief time I caught your attention meant so little to you but left me tangled in the ripped up remains of my innocence ruined in the flicker of a moment you reached for something to kill me with as, unsuspecting, I kept walking
A spider crawls across my floor making its way over the kitchen tiles I sit back and smile faintly as it disappears from my view and from my mind

This was inspired by a spider I saw on- SHOCK- my kitchen floor. I killed it though. I think it was a black widow.

This poem was fantastic! I loved it! The theme was great, and the way you tied it all back to the spider was awesome. I especially loved the 'caught in my mind' phrase. I wanna put this one in the Hall of Fame. Would you mind?
