Just had the urge to jot down the storyline of the next thing I want to start and never finish. I’m not much of a romance writer, but it’s turning out like I will have to be…..
[switching off between wolf and boy’s journal]
There is a wolf who lives in the forest near a midevelish town. She watches a war begin there. Of course she does not care, these are humans; people. One day as she is watching, a young peasant boy who wishes to be a soldier in the war sees the marking on the bottom of her paw. It is inscribed in gren, a message written in a long ago seceret language. He does not disregard it. He has not seen the lettering, but he is convinced that it in not a normal marking. He chases her, but she runs too fast. However, he makes it his misson to find out what that scrawling means. The boy sits and waits patiently at the edge of the woods each morning for hours, hoping to see her. One morniong the wolf wanders into the village. There has been a famine and she is looking for an unwary cartkeeper to steal form, ducking behind corners all the way, wolves are not welcome here. A dwarf who has a wolf-dog for a companion is scanning the carts of objects. The boy just happens to be working at the cart where the dwarf has stepped up to pay for a chicken. The wolf takes a step, waiting for the right moment to snatch it….. The wolf-dog starts barking suddenly, the wolf is shocked by the bark and looks up towards it. Now the bark has turned into a snarl and he is cocking his head to one side, as if confused. Suddenly he charges. The wolf is forced to tear right through the town square. The boy sees the marking on her right front foot as she runs and tears away from his cusomer to follow her. She is at the edge of the woods when he hollers ‘stop!’ She turns. Had she understood him? He tooka step and she fled. Gone. A swindler, also at the market, had also seen the strange markings on this wolf. He knows, but this will come later….. The wolf now is sure that they know something is amiss. She must find new territory. She has grown used to these woods, so she shall stay, also on the outskirts of the town, but at least a mile from here. West she decides. Onwards she journeys. The boy is now convinced that something is odd with this wolf. He is more intently searching now, running through the woods, looking for anything that moves. He has gone to the local medicine woman. She has given him a sleeping potion, the boy has not told her his intentions. The wolf is journeying and comes to a jagged wall straight up. It is a cliff. She turns to go around it and sees something move in the trees. The boy. He has not seen her. She is perfectly still. He turns, looking straight at her. He pauses, then slowly takes a step. She charges at him. Afraid, yet not taking any chances. He shoots his dart.It just misses. She bites, also missing, but by much less than the boy had. She takes another lunge at him. He has been scratched, not lethaly, but it is very bad. She stands and looks on as he staggers to the ground. His calve is torn apart, bleeding quite heavily. The wolf starts to walk away. He cries out to her not to go. She looks back for a moment then walks calmly a foot more and picks up the dart that missed. The boy is now in pain, so much that he has to lay down. The wolf walks over to him, and quickly inserts the dart with a swing of her head. He reaches out to stop her, but falls asleep. The wolf walks to the center of the forest. She sits, looking towards the treetops. Laying down, she looks at the bottom of her paw. The one with scribing on it. Getting up, she waks towards the outskirts of town. Walking in it, not for the first time this week: a rare occurance. Once more she walks into the woods. There is a wall of stomes, the remains of a fort there long ago……..
*She transforms, heals the boy, and transforms back, he is still asleep*
