boy have I had a hellish week. and the following is only part of it. this poem is dedicated to one of my best friends, her mother committed suicide last sunday, the memorial service was today. me and some friends and some of our teachers ditched school for it. she was one of the best mothers, well people I knew. This poem is for my best friend and her mother.

Smiles
I see her smile
And I think of you
That’s something you should know
And because of her
The gift of you is not compromised or gilded greek
And I love her for it
I love her for you
For the tears blood red with pain touching skin
And for the crying and the laughing you left
On my answering machine
In the lost hours of the night
And the memories of it
I love her for your soul
Which is hers as well for it’s you
Who is the redwilded daughter
And kindness with which you so ardently wield
The hand of friendship
And graceful smile
I love her for what she left
Even the unanswered questions
That you now must find answers too
For the wisdom in that passing is precious
And for that she is not gone
Her solidity is just in time and memories
Rather than here and now
I love her for the leaving
Even as she did, in such a messy manner
But a life isn’t just one act
It’s a series of them, and she had more of them
Filled with laughter and butterflies than I can count
So truly her last act is insignificant (at least compared to her life)
I love her for you
As you cry
And for the truck that sat three
But she revised it to six or seven
And for food fights, and ice cream, and manicures at noon
And for ditching school
I see her smile
And I think of you
And I love you both more for it
