(The ) Clock and Anchor (Ritual)
Sometimes I can’t help but wonder if I love you far too much.
There’s a man on your shoulder and he calls himself your conscience
But there is venom on your breath that makes his verdicts noxious.
I break my neck to kiss your cheek
Just to feel the weathered skin
But his words are sitting in your lungs and
We’re not doing this again
And I can tell you that when you smile it’s really just his teeth
And every time I kiss your lips
His jaws are sinking into me
Well I said “This Clock’s on an Anchor and we’d better get out fast”
Because before they know what hit them we could be in the past
And break through the blinding sunset to an artificial plain
Where maybe we can sit for coffee
And pass away the day because…
The memory that took your life is tapping at the door
If it continues to go unnoticed we’ll be shaking even more and
Yeah I know this may not be the best
Time to bring it up but
All it wants is you and
I want you to get up.
Well I pressed your eyelids down that night and told you an old story
Of a night I keep inside my head, when I said that I was sorry
For everything that’s coming up
And everything I couldn’t stop
And I know you can hear me but there’s no point waking up.
Well I said “This Clock’s on an Anchor and we’d better get out fast”
Because before they know what hit them we could be in the past
And break through the blinding sunset to an artificial plain
Where we can scar each others’ throats
And waste another day.
Yeah, sure there’s time to waste for love because
We’re sure to waste away
The same way
Anyway
