Lichen “ A poet once said, life is like licking honey off a thorn. I disagree. If anything, life is like sucking castor oil off a couple miles of barbed wire.” “one thing in a lifetime can change you or many things will” the poet said licking honey off the thorn but i’m just sucking castor oil off miles of barbed wire gnawing through my wrists watching the burgundystains puncture pureskin i’m peppered with holes from when i’ve slipped (and I think I’ll save myself this time)nothing has given relief in this barrenland of witheredhopes and yesterdayregrets everyone is blind here made of dustnotflesh pragmaticirony not (hope)fearangerlustlove emotions of beating hearts unlike crumpled bulls of the dustbowl dreams are of Californiaorangesandlimes but are confined in Oklahomatumbleweeds i want to lick the honey, sweet and saccharine even sinnerlike (I could care less if it drives me insanethe knowledge for i can’t keep purging myself on miles of barbed wire
